The Strategic Air & Space Museum’s mission is to ignite the thrill of innovation and discovery through the ultimate guest experience.
It is important to elaborate on the core concepts and principles of this mission to more effectively guide and motivate the museum’s board, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
The phrase “igniting the thrill” reflects our passion for creating learning experiences that are fun and exciting for all guests
The word “innovation” is the cornerstone of the museum’s new mission. Innovation becomes the organizing concept for all that we do. We will emphasize the role of innovation in the historical interpretation of our artifacts. We will emphasize innovation in the selection of our exhibits and the development of our programs. Guests of all ages will learn about the history of innovation and more importantly become engaged in the processes of innovation.
The word “discovery” is critical because it connects our mission to the museum’s new marketing tagline “Learn Something!” We want our guests to learn something about themselves, about others, and about the world around them. We are collectively inspired by the words of Ben Franklin, who said, “Tell me and I will forget, show me and I may remember, involve me and I will learn.”
Finally, the phrase “ultimate guest experience” signals our commitment to doing whatever it takes to insure that all of our guests have a great time during their visit, that they will look forward to returning, and they will enthusiastically recommend us to their friends, family, and neighbors.
Our vision is to establish the museum as a leading institution for informal education in the physical sciences, engineering, technology and mathematics as well as history and arts.
