Strategic Air & Space Museum CampsThe Strategic Air & Space Museum’s Education Department is committed to fueling the curiosity of children across the Midwest and to educating them with special emphasis in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). We believe that STEM is a direction of great significance for our youth and the future of our country and world and so we strive for excellence in all of our STEM-centered educational programs.

*Registration deadlines apply to each camp (approximately 10 days prior to camp, see registration form for deadlines). Camps may be cancelled due to unmet minimum participation. If we exceed our maximum participation limit, we will waitlist your registration. If there are enough waitlisted we will host your registered camp on another date.

Our Summer Camps will inspire imaginations and ambitions of our summer camp participants, while developing the future scientists and researchers of our community.  We look forward to teaching your child something new and offering them an experience with lasting memories. For 2015 we are offering 11 new camp experiences. Our camps are tiered experiences; day camps are best for introductions and younger campers. Three-day and overnight camps are best suited for intermediate learning. Razor Edge Robotics and Tinker, Maker, Engineer are best suited for advanced learning. Our camps for 2015 include:

Summer Camp Descriptions & Pricing:

Aviation Adventure: Aviation adventure is an exploratory camp of all things aviation. Campers will explore a wide range of concepts: they will explore the 4 forces of flight with our exclusive 4 Forces App, explore the design of aircraft by making their own Glider, and they will take the role of a pilot with our in house flight simulators. Sponsored by DiVentures.

STEMcation: Receive an all-inclusive tour of STEM Fields with the Strategic Air and Space Museum! Explore various scientific fields by conducting experiments of your own! Get acquainted with our new modular robotic technology tools and our Engineering challenge with test your math and engineering skills for sure!

Robot Romp: Campers will receive a crash course in the in all things robotics. Starting with LittleBits to understand how a electronic components can be assembled to complete a task, then applying those concepts to completing various challenges using our modular robotic systems and programmable robotic tools. This camp is an excellent introduction for youths wanting to learn about robotics basics.

  • Takes the place of Robotics 101 – Combines the best activities from 101 for a condensed, but fun-packed exploration of Robotics.

DiVentures Scuba and Swim Centers

Astronaut Academy: Sponsored by DiVentures – Astronaut Academy will put you in the role of an Astronaut in training. We will start with a trip to dive school to learn how to work in a weightless environment, then complete various challenges to understand how an Astronaut completes their tasks during space walks. Campers will also experience survival training similar to the training that all astronauts must go through before they can go in space!

  • Campers will need to bring sleeping gear, bag and toiletries

Mad Scientist: Become your very own mad scientist. Step 1: Set up an awesome lair. Step 2: Get your own special mad scientist laugh. Step 3: Perform your own mad experiments. This 3 day camp will have kids creating their own killer robots, making ooey gooey messes, and have them turn into something down right diabolical.

Survival 101: Campers will be immersed in all things survival. This camp will be led by our own Sargent from the US Army. He will teach campers the basics of survival and camp set-up. Campers will spend the night outdoors and will have fun exploring the wilderness around the museum.

Survival: Zombie Apocalypse: There has been a zombie outbreak! How will you survive?? Learn how to navigate the wilderness, set up a zombie proof camp, and learn how to scavenge for survival. This camp will be led by our own US Army Sargent as he guides campers through in the ins and outs of surviving off the land.

  • Campers will need to bring sleeping gear, bag and toiletries

Robot Academy: In this three day advanced robotics course campers will receive a tiered robotics experience where each day is more challenging than the last. Day one will require campers to solve complex challenges using simple robotic systems. Day two will challenge the campers programming skills as they are required to give complex directions to advanced robotic systems. Day three will test the campers’ skills to construct and program a robot to complete the most difficult challenges yet!

  • Offered June 8-10 or July 20-22
  • 15 Minimum & 45 Maximum Participants
  • Campers will need to bring a sack lunch 
  • Takes the place of Robotics 201/Robotics 301 – Combines the best activities from 201 and 301 for LEGO NXT focused work.

Aim High: If it flies through the sky then it is included in this camp! Campers will learn about the phyics and means of flight starting fromthe simplest machines to complex space exploration. This three day camp will have campers constructing their own gliders and rockets, flying RC drones and planes, and meeting aviation professionals.

  • Campers will need to bring a sack lunch 

Razor Edge Robotics: Razor Edge Robotics is an Expert Level Robotics course meant to challenge all participants and hone their robotics skills. Campers will construct their own robot using the tools and materials of their choice. They will then be expected to solve a series of increasingly difficult challenges independently without the aid of staff or other campers. Razor Edge is a true test of your robotics prowess.  This camp is designed for youths with advanced experience with robotics.

  • 15 Minimum & 45 Maximum Participants
  • Campers will need to bring a sack lunch 
  • Takes the place of Robotics 301 – Participants will learn advanced tricks and tips for better robotic skills related to programming, building, and troubleshooting

Tinker, Maker, Engineer: Interested in the field of engineering? Tinker, Maker, Engineer is the camp for you! Campers will assemble electrical circuits, build models, and meet with engineering professionals from the area. Campers’ final challenge will be to design their own invention, create a prototype, and present it to our engineering professionals.
